Internet journal "Artificial societies" (ISSN 2077-5180)

To our reader

Dear friends!

Social sciences as a whole, and economic sciences in particular, are facing the moment of large-scale and effective use of the new tool for receiving knowledge. This is so-called agent based modeling (ABM). In the first introductory article of the first issue of the journal I am trying to explain what ABM is, how artificial societies are created and why we are expecting the crucial breakthrough in understanding of social phenomena.

Laboratory of artificial societies, whose web site you are currently reading, has made an attempt to initiate intellectual movement in this field in Russia. There is already a considerable progress in our knowledge of «artificial intelligence». And further we plan to keep up with this type of research.

The Internet journal you are reading now is analogous to the English language journal JASSS (http://jasss.soc.surrey.ac.uk/JASSS.html). JASSS has been published for several years and became one of the most appropriate scientific journals to publish papers on artificial societies.

As for our journal, however, we do not plan to deal only with computer-based calculations. We will be glad to review more general works, as well.

We are attracted by the openness of JASSS. To read, download, forward, or use the sources from this journal it is not necessary to provide any personal information, to register, and to pay money. The only condition or rather the requirement – is proper citation. Intellectual property is free in this case but it may not be stolen.

The contents of the journal «Artificial societies» depends on all of us. On our active effort and intellect. We plan to make the journal a refereed one, registerd in major rating and other agencies, including the Higher Attestation Committee of the Russian Federation. We expect to have a paper back and English versions of the journal.

Hence, we would be glad to receive the questions and suggestions from the readers. As for submitting manuscripts for publication, please see the guidelines for authors in the end of the journal.
